Item description from seller

Dover Publications, New York [Published date: 1983]. Softcover, 15 pp plus 24 leaves transfer patterns; illustrations (some color); 28 cm. Series: Dover needlework series. In good+ condition. Glossy blue pictorial paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing, aging and soiling. Binding tight (staple bound). Interior shows mild age toning to several page edges and occasional light foxing to first few and last few pages, but transfer patterns are clean, uncut and unmarked. [From back cover] At carnival time in Rio the lush, ripe colors and textures of Brazil literally leap out at you much as they do in Brazilian embroidery, the innovative, three-dimensional stitchery that, like other cultural imports from that country, have caught the fancy of creative Americans. This book of instructions and 50 transfer patterns teaches the craft, showing step-by-step how the three-dimensional effect is achieved, what special threads give the distinctive lustre or crinkled boucle look, and how to fill the fabric background with that delicate tracery of field flowers, leaves and branches that characterize Brazilian embroidery. Rosie Montague, whose Brazilian background makes her a prominent teacher and spokesperson for the craft, introduces Brazilian embroidery with a guide to fascinating stitches: bleeding heart, bullion loop, detached buttonhole stitch, pistil stitch and others; one learns how to obtain and use the necessary threads, how to transfer the designs to fabric and then embroider them. 50 original transfer patterns feature floral motifs in various sizes that appear complex and intricate, but will soon, with this guide, be found decorating pillow cases, clothing, bedspreads and wall hangings, adding an authentic Brazilian beauty to crafts projects. Original Dover 1983 publication. 48pp. of transfer patterns printed one side only. Introduction. Instructions. List of threads and sources of supply. Metric Conversion Chart. Diagrams. Embroidery samples illustrated in color on covers. Total of 64pp. 8 1/4 x 11. Paperbound. Photography by Bill Pell. See page 2 for a key to the designs that appear on the front cover.
