About this Item
In some ways, this is sort of a sister volume to the one I just listed (New Diptera). Both books involve Diptera. There is one 'slight' difference: this one is written in PORTUGUESE (Leia abaixo). Both came from the library of the entomologist, Dr. Stanley Bromley. So I'll copy and paste a little bit about him from the last listing: I purchased this book some years ago from the library of the late Dr. Stanley W. Bromley of Stamford, Connecticut. He penciled his initials on the first page of the first monograph (that is again the case). Dr. Bromley was a past president of the New York Entomological Society. He published his first paper 'Asilids and their prey' at the age of 13. The Asildae upon which he was an authority occupied a part of Dr. Bromley's attention for the remainder of his life, his last paper being a description of 32 new species. Dr. Bromley's library contained a number of books that he'd had bound. The last one was bound in black. This one is bound in maroon. Like the last, this book is extremely well-bound, square and straight, with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. And like the last, the inside covers and end papers are an unusual and attractive pattern resembling the inner surface of wood. They're also very clean. There is again one author of all of the papers within the book. Here he is H. de Souza Lopes (Henrique de Souza Lopes). The papers within appear to have been published between the years 1936 in 1938. I would estimate there are probably around 200 pages. Dr. Bromley penciled a number at the top of the first page of each paper. So I think there are 14 papers in total. I don't see any other writing beside penciled numbers. The pages are in very good condition. I don't see any conspicuous creasing, there are few vague or semi-creases. The great majority of pages are exceptionally clean. Here and there is a page with some spotting, very few of these pages. There are no attachments in the book. You can see the covers in the photos. I don't see any soiling, but under direct light there is some speckling of the maroon color on the front and rear. The edges and corners are in excellent shape the gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The spine looks very good. It is a little bit lighter than the front and rear. The page edges look very clean. And that should cover condition. Ele publicou seu primeiro artigo 'Asilids and the presa' aos 13 anos. O Dr. Bromley escreveu.Google traduz o resto. Seller Inventory # 003402
