Ward, Lock & Tyler, London, N.D. (1872). Thick octavo. Hardback. Title, vi, 1088pp. Three quarter morocco with marbled boards. Blind tooling to the boards and spine and with 5 raised bands, gilt title, gilt ruling and gilt decorative motifs. All edges marbled. Binding strong and hinges firm. Apart from small scratching to the marbled boards this book is in remarkable condition for its age. Very good +. There are 33 of 34 whole page plates, the missing one supplied in facsimile (no sign of it ever having been in situ). There are also scores, if not hundreds, of engravings throughout the text. The volume includes 7 papers on Pyrotechny with detailed ingredients for the making of huge fireworks; 7 papers fully illustrated on the mechanic's workshop. Multiple papers on the Zoological Gardens with some full page plates. 2 papers on Antipodean weaponry. 4 pages on football at Rugby School.
