118 p. of text and 30 p. of period ads with engravings, binding firm though abraded, and front panel of wrapper is detached. More serious is damage done by rodents, who fortunately were not interested in the articles here but only in the edges of the wrappers and advertisements--the engraving for the Aetna Life Insurance Company, Hartford, Ct. was spared as well as that for the Wheeler Sewing Machine but upper lettering destroyed as well as most of the small ads on the upper portions of the last six pages and a substantial portion of back of wrapper is missing. The "Alphabetical Index to Vol. XXV, July-December 1858" is fortunately in the front and was spared. Articles include "Acquisition of Mexico-Filibustering:" "State Rights and State Remedies;" "The Mississippi and New Orleans," "North Carolina, Her Wealth, Resources and History," "State Liberties, or the Right to African Contract labor," "Effects of the Tariff on the Price of Cotton," and many others.
