Former library copy (College of St. Scholastica), and likely bound together by them, with just a few marks on new end sheets. Marginalia throughout Grimm's work with a few instances of underlining. 1861 Half-Leather. 64; 81, [1]; 56; 23, [1]; 142; 8; 29; 22 pp. German text. A sammelband of seven pamphlets by German philologists, including an essay by Jacob Grimm (of The Brothers Grimm) on the origins of language. While he is best known for his work with folklore and fairy tales, he also wrote several important works regarding language, with very detailed research about the history of the German language and its grammar, and 'Grimm's law' is a set of statements about Germanic Sound Shift named after him. The scarce Dummler catalogue includes entries, with brief prospectuses, for 34 titles, by Grimm, Bopp, Von Humboldt, Steinthal and other notable German philologists; a similar Auszug of linguistic works published by Dummler (caption title, 8 pp., c. 1858) is present between pamphlets 5 and 6. Dummler's Verlagsbuchhandlung in Berlin. December 1852; Der Ursprung der Sprache, in Zusammenhange mit den Letzten Fragen alles Wissens.
