I am a book collector for over 35 years, with interests in signed first editions, proofs and limited editions. I am now retiring and selling my private collection plus the odd thing I find on my travels. This is not my livelihood so I describe books accurately and disclose all faults - I will not "overlook" issues just to try and get a sale or give blase descriptions that tell you nothing. All my books are sent securely to ensure they do not arrive damaged - I am contemptuous of sellers who use jiffy bags or plastic wrapping and seem to think that this is good enough. I accept PayPal ONLY if we have traded before and we have established trust.
All books in my store are my own and in my possession. I expect customers to read my listings fully and look at all photos and be aware of the terms. I will work with everyone to resolve issues but I expect the same courtesy back - if I don't reply to an email within 24 hours it means I haven't received it so you'll need to resend.
I charge shipping that reflects my actual costs. I do NOT offer cheap shipping and add it to the book price so please do not complain to me that Bob down the road offers cheaper postage. Sure he does - but the price of his book is hiked to reclaim it, or you're referring to a power seller who can negotiate postage discounts. I can't - I'm a private individual selling my private collection. ABE only allows me to set one postage rate so I charge the rate for hardbacks sent in a box with bubble wrap and polystyrene peanuts. Where postage is less - eg a paperback or small hardback - I refund the difference once I get my receipts and know the exact cost. Tracking is NOT provided automatically on UK parcels - you have to choose priority mail AND pay an additional £7 postage on top.
