I am a book collector for over 35 years, with interests in signed first editions, proofs and limited editions. I am now retiring and selling my private collection plus the odd thing I find on my travels. This is not my livelihood so I describe books accurately and disclose all faults - I will not "overlook" issues just to try and get a sale or give blase descriptions that tell you nothing. All my books are sent securely to ensure they do not arrive damaged - I am contemptuous of sellers who use jiffy bags or plastic wrapping and seem to think that this is good enough.
All books in my store are my own and in my possession. I expect customers to read my listings fully and look at all photos and be aware of the terms. I will work with everyone to resolve issues but I expect the same courtesy back - if I don't reply to an email within 24 hours it means I haven't received it so you'll need to resend.
I charge shipping that reflects my actual costs. I do NOT offer cheap shipping and add it to the book price so please do not complain to me that Bob down the road offers cheaper postage. Sure he does - but the price of his book is hiked to reclaim it, or you're referring to a power seller who can negotiate postage discounts. I can't - I'm a private individual selling my private collection. ABE only allows me to set one postage rate so I charge the rate for hardbacks sent in a box with bubble wrap and polystyrene peanuts. Where postage is less - eg a paperback or small hardback - I refund the difference once I get my receipts and know the exact cost. Tracking is NOT provided automatically on UK parcels - you have to choose priority mail AND pay an additional £7 postage on top.
