Third edition ? Format, octavo, 186mm. Physical description, [3] iv - xlvii, [7], [1] 2 - 1296, 12, [24], [1]. With a half title. Plates as called for, [11] coloured, including a frontispiece, and [10] full page wood engravings. Many tiny woodcut illustrations in the text. With the often missing smaller, grey, advert leaf for - 'Ward Lock's Home Book' betwen p.[ii] and [iii]. The front free endpaper is slightly proud from the rest of the leaves. The contents are fresh and clean.The original unsophisticated publisher's binding is quarter red goatskin over slightly rubbed dark green cloth and boards , the spine is attractive red oasis goatskin elaborately decorated in gilt, as published. The book is protected by a clear acid free wrapper Overall, a very good plus copy. The dating of Mrs Beeton's Book of Household Management has been problematic for a very long time, this copy has been dated from the -' Publisher's Note to the New Edition ' which dated 1880 on page iv. Bitting page 32, notes of the first edition of 1861 - ' . This is one of the earliest cookery books using coloured illustrations'. Seller Inventory # 001196
