About this Item
[137 p.]. 17 cm. Leather covers have worn edges and corners. Chipped and torn spine. Book manufacturer's label on front pastedown. Explanatory pencil inscription on opposite endpaper. A list of the Catholic Seminarians at Montreal Grand Seminary in the early 1880s, giving date of ordination, where they were stationed, subsequent positions, date of death if known, etc. Especially poignant is "Eugene A. Dean. Diocese of Springfield. No orders. Sick throughout course. Died Sept. 22 /84. R.I.P." Perhaps rather amusing to modern readers is the note attached to William Sherman: "This unfortunate Priest, a slave to his passions, and totally forgetful of Christ and Church, entered into the contract of marriage, June 24 1886 in New York City, with 'Tillie' McCoy!!!".
