Octavo, 416 pages plus 32 page publisher's catalogue to rear, 59 b&w illustrations and a coloured frontispiece. No date but the catalogue of "Very Important New Books" at the back is dated 1872. There should be 61 plates in total but one is missing. Gilt portrait of The Chevalier D'Eon on the front cover, gilt lettering an a picture of a pig-faced lady on the spine. Spine a little faded, boards worn along the edges, paper cracked over front hinge. Internally some pages are foxed but mainly the preliminaries and the last few pages of the publisher's catalogue, fore-edges foxed.
