"The Book of the Ten Treatises on the Eye" stands as the earliest existing systematic textbook of ophthalmology, offering a comprehensive overview of ocular science from the 9th century. Ascribed to the renowned scholar Hunain Ibn Is-haq (809-877 A.D.), this seminal work bridges the gap between ancient Greek medical traditions and the flourishing scientific advancements of the Islamic Golden Age.

The text is organized into ten specific treatises that meticulously detail the anatomy of the eye, the physiology of vision, various ocular diseases, and their respective treatments and surgical interventions. This critical edition presents the Arabic text alongside a scholarly English translation and glossary, ensuring that the foundational theories of medieval optometry are accessible to modern readers. By documenting the diagnostic techniques and pharmacological knowledge of the era, "The Book of the Ten Treatises on the Eye" remains an invaluable resource for understanding the historical development of medical practice and the preservation of scientific thought. It provides a fascinating window into the evolution of ophthalmology as a specialized field of study, highlighting the sophisticated understanding of the ocular system achieved during the medieval period.
