Acceptable used condition, with outer wear and cover stains, a somewhat frayed binding, minor yellowing within, and occasional pencil marks in the margins, to highlight passages of interest to a reader. A well-used text, this particular copy bears the bookplate of our late friend Billy Joe Tatum, noted author, herbalist, and wild foods authority. Herself the wife of an Arkansas country doctor, she collected many such books, and (typical of her) left inside this copy a penny postcard dated 1910 from a doctor's brother, advising him he "need not come," because "Esta's fever is getting along nicely." Postcard will be included with this sale. A fun collectible, containing many drops of wisdom, such as (in a passage to "be exceedingly cautious in giving certificates of insanity . . .) "Gold begets in brethren hate, And gold doth friendships separate.".

Store description
Blue Eye Books was established to sell primarily rare, unusual, underappreciated, and otherwise hard to find books, primarily related to herbs, their uses, gardening, cooking, and medical history. Good editions of classic literature, history, and culture are a secondary focus. Owners Jim Long and Josh Young are both authors themselves, and through their work at Long Creek Herbs, have built an enviable library, which they seek to now distribute to readers with similar interests and respect for the texts. In addition to the aforementioned categories, both men are avid readers, and cannot resist buying interesting books of all sorts when they find them, but the shelves are bulging and life is short. We have plenty of places to donate ordinary books of general interest. When you find a book which interests you from Blue Eye Books, know a reader or researcher has found it to have special merit, and wishes to pass it along to another who will find it so, and treat it accordingly.…
