Second Edition.Illustrations include a colour frontispiece and twenty-three illustrated plates, seven of which are coloured.With a privately circulated leaflet loosely inserted into text which details the proposed formation of a 'Pure Rivers Society' to protect British waters from pollution. The society was officially formed in London in October 1926.This is a highly informative work on the art of angling, giving the reader advice on how to fish, as well as how to handle various different aquatic species.Contents include an introduction by the editor, two prefaces, and chapters like 'The Origin of Angling', 'Nottingham Angling', 'The Bream', and 'Varieties of Trout'.Francis Francis (1822-1886) was an English writer who wrote works primarily on the art of fishing. These include 'The Angler's Register', 'Fish culture', 'A Book on Angling', 'By Lake and River', and 'The Practical Management of Fisheries'.With an introduction by Sir Herbert Maxwell (1845-1937), a Scottish novelist, antiquarian, and prominent salmon angler.With an ink inscription to front endpaper belonging to Colonel Percy Lester Reid, who was a High Sheriff of Northamptonshire in 1931.Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, excellent, with just a bit of bumping to the head and tail of spine.
