Print on Demand. This book, by the author of The Evidential Value of Prophecy, is a commentary on the Book of Amos within the context of written prophecy in Israel. Taking the English text in the Revised Version as their basis, the commentary combines a heartfelt acceptance of critical principles with loyalty to the Catholic Faith. It is less elementary than the Cambridge Bible for Schools, less critical than the International Critical Commentary, less didactic than the Expositors Bible. The result is a work that is of use both to theological students and to the clergy, as well as to the growing number of educated laymen and laywomen who wish to read the Bible intelligently and reverently. The commentary includes an introduction stating the bearing of modern criticism and research upon the historical character of the book, a careful paraphrase of the text with notes on the more difficult passages, and, where necessary, excursuses on any points of special importance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
