What if the thing hiding in the dark is just as scared as you are?
Seven-year-old Sofia loves pumpkins, costumes, and Halloween treats—but when the sun goes down, every shadow seems to become a monster. She would rather stay safely beneath her porch light than join the neighborhood’s Halloween lantern parade.
Then a nervous “Boo!” leads Sofia to Pip, a friendly ghost tangled in decorations. Pip has lost the moonstone that gives him his glow and guides him home. If he cannot find it before the ghost procession crosses the sky, he may be stranded forever.
Helping Pip means Sofia must leave her porch and follow a trail of silver sparkles into the night. Together, they face a growling shadow, a walkway filled with whispering ghosts, a crowded Halloween celebration, and a dark maze. With each challenge, Sofia discovers that courage does not mean never feeling afraid. It means breathing slowly, looking closely, using her voice, and taking one small step at a time.
Boo! Don’t Be Scared, Sofia is a heartwarming Halloween chapter book about friendship, confidence, and finding light in frightening moments. Gentle suspense, playful humor, short chapters, and an adorable ghost make this an inviting independent read or family read-aloud for children ages 6–8.
Perfect for young readers who enjoy friendly ghosts, magical adventures, and stories about overcoming fears, this reassuring tale shows children that even the shyest voice can be brave—and that sometimes the best friends appear when we dare to look beyond the deepest shadows.
