This VG- quality book was copyrighted in 1909 and is published by Cupples & Leon; it is 7-5/8" tall with 203 numbered pages of text. This book has a cream colored cloth binding with all black lettering and a front panel in blue and black; it is a format #1 book, as per Mattson & Davis. It is square, very clean, free of edge dings with the top rear corner lightly bumped; the head and heel of the spine are bumped with slight fraying; the bottom edges have very little wear. The spine is clean and the lettering and small image are clear and intact. The front panel image is clean and has very little wear. The lower edge of the rear board has what looks like water damage, but it is confined to the exterior completely--even the rear paste down has no evidence of water damage. There are two points on the front board--near the lower front corner and along the front gutter ridge--that have small spots of fabric deterioration. The interior is free of writing, stray marks, stains of any sort and paper damage of any type. Both hinges are quite strong and not damaged in any fashion. The text paper is lightly toned and is a bit stiff but not brittle. The book has no remainder mark and is not a former library book. It has a frontis + 3 on plain paper. The series list in the front of the book lists only the first 10 books in the series. The VG- jacket is moderately toned with small chips at both front corners and at the heel of the spine, with a larger chip at the head of the spine--only a very slight amount of lettering is affected at the head. There is also wear with some color loss along the front fold and along both gutter ridges. There is no tape on this jacket. The list on the back side of the jacket lists all 25 books in this series.
