Blueprints Radiology

The Second Edition of Blueprints Radiology covers the essentials that students need to know on rotations and while preparing for the USMLE. The thoroughly updated and greatly expanded Second Edition features coverage of the most common conditions encountered on the wards. This edition includes new chapters on interventional radiology and nuclear medicine and places greater emphasis on classic radiological findings and pearls. The high-quality images include an increased number of CTs, MRIs, and x-rays. Seventy-five brand new board-format questions, with detailed answer explanations, are included. This edition now includes evidence-based resources.

"Blueprints Radiology is an excellent book. I like this book since it is much more affordable and much more efficient at presenting the material than a text book. It covers major topics in various disciplines from the basics and then explains the role of radiology and imaging in arriving at the diagnosis. Most important of all, students will be able to decide when they need to order a particular imaging study. There aren't many books in radiology that cover the material relevant for 3rd/4th year medical students the way Blueprints Radiology covers!" -Azam Mohiudin, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, 2005 "One of the biggest strengths of Blueprints Radiology is the new inclusion of chapters on Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. As these are increasingly important branches of radiology, I think that the new chapters are wonderful additions to the book. I found the questions to be high-quality and very useful for review of the information presented in the text. This book allows the student to review the important basics of radiology without reading an entire textbook." - Brent Luria, McGill University, 2005 "I am impressed with the text as a whole. It provided the right amount of detail for students, many high resolution images, useful review questions, and many high-yield factoids. I would definitely recommend this book to colleagues on a radiology rotation. I would also say the book would be useful during medicine, surgery, and ob/gyn rotations. Having to read a chest x-ray for the first time while as a new 3rd year medical student just starting a medicine rotation is a daunting task. This book can make that transition into the clinical years a little easier by allowing the reader to quickly become familiar with the most common radiographic modalities." -Christopher Steen, Resident, New Jersey Medical School "I think Blueprints Radiology is concise yet packed with useful information. The second edition has much more concise organization and more clinically relevant information. I think this book would be useful for not only students doing a Radiology rotation but for ER, Peds and Ob/Gyn rotations as well." - Ai Mukai, internal medicine resident, Pennsylvania State College of Medicine/Hershey Medical Center "Blueprints Radiology is concise and easy to read making it quick to read a chapter during downtime at the hospital. The book is affordable and easy to carry giving more than adequate information in an easily digestible format for the price. All the chapters provide appropriate level of detail for a 3/4th yr med student. The questions contain very high yield material for both the boards and the wards. There have been a number of excellent additions to the second edition that would make it even more popular." -Azam Mohiudin, University of Kentucky College of Medicine, 2005 "Blueprints Radiology is well written and easily understood by a medical student, and the text is pertinent for a clinician as it has the clinical signs and symptoms. The chapters are succinct and have a lot of good information but are not so long that you can't easily read it if your rotation is one month. I would even recommend it to someone for an internal medicine rotation because you look at a lot of your own films." - Aimee Carswell, Resident, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio "These chapters provide a level of detail tailored to and easily grasped by 3rd and 4th year medical students without providing too much minutia. Many important clinical correlations are given to correspond with different radiologic findings - these make for a much more complete text which is helpful not only if reviewing for radiology but also covers many "key" topics often focused on by standardized exams. Although I never had a separate radiology rotation, I can honestly say that reviewing this book during my fourth year of medical school gave me a good foundation that has served me well during my residency so far." -Christopher Steen, Resident, New Jersey Medical School "The biggest strength of Blueprints Radiology is that it's very nicely written and the text is clear. The selection of images seems to include all of the ones that would be helpful." - Susan Merel, University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, 2005 "Early in medical school, and even during clerkships, we weren't exposed to a systematic overview of radiology. Chapter 1 (General Principles in Radiology) does a great job of outlining the main points in the field and serves as a good springboard to the rest of the book. With the consistent format from chapter to chapter readers know exactly what is coming, and exactly where to find the information they are looking for. Med students are trying to get the basics of radiology so that they can use these skills during their internship and beyond. Blueprints Radiology is written so that students can follow the material and get through a chapter in a relatively short period of time. -Mark Naftanel, Duke University, 2005
