Dr. Wyatt Barton, a retired CIA operative and now civilian surgeon reluctantly accepts a call to leave retirement and participate in one last Black Ops mission. Meanwhile a charming and well-respected U.S. defense firm executive hides in plain sight and secretly plots high-tech terror attacks in the sleepy, self - absorbed United States. The overseas mission is compromised and during the battle, the terrorist leader's son is killed and Wyatt is now targeted for assassination by the embedded terrorist organization. Dr. Barton suffers injuries during the battle, experiences a near death experience, and sees the light. When he regains consciousness and life, he remembers the message he received from the light: He will receive a gift but only if he heeds the specific moral warning that comes with it. Although his civilian surgical career and his relationship with his lover are threatened by his experience and his apparently worsened PTSD, he eventually realizes this gift may somehow allow him to eliminate the evil terrorist and his dangerous organization. He doesn't want to be a vigilante, but he struggles with how to use this gift to eliminate the terrorist threat and protect the woman he loves while desperately trying to preserve his soul by keeping the moral obligation the gift demands of him. Warning to readers: If you don't like fast-paced action, romance, gallows and self-deprecating humor, heroism in battle, and a small taste of faith in the power of the almighty, then, you should definitely avoid this book and read poetry.…

As a respected defense contractor plots devastating terror attacks on U.S. soil, Barton is pulled from his operating room into a world of high-stakes espionage. But when the mission goes sideways and the terrorist leader's son is killed, Barton becomes the target of a sophisticated international death squad.
During a near-fatal encounter, Barton experiences something extraordinary—a mystical encounter with "the light" that offers him a supernatural gift. The catch? This power comes with strict moral conditions that challenge everything about his covert operations background. Now, while battling worsening PTSD and trying to protect the woman he loves, Barton must navigate the razor's edge between necessary evil and moral obligation.
With the precision of a surgeon's scalpel and the impact of a sniper's bullet, "Blue Shadows" combines cutting-edge medical drama with military action and spiritual warfare. Carson weaves together pulse-pounding combat scenes, complex moral dilemmas, and unexpected moments of dark humor into a unique thriller that asks: can you fight evil without becoming the very thing you're fighting against?
Perfect for fans of Tom Clancy's medical-military thrillers and James Rollins's blend of science and suspense, "Blue Shadows" marks the beginning of an explosive new series that will keep you turning pages late into the night.
About the Author:
S.R. Carson brings an extraordinary depth of medical expertise to his fiction, practicing three subspecialties in the mountain wilderness of the American West—where occasional visits from bears remind him that nature's dangers aren't confined to the operating room. This unique setting, combined with his extensive medical knowledge, infuses his writing with an authenticity rarely found in medical thrillers.
As both a practicing physician and accomplished author, Carson bridges the worlds of medicine and storytelling, crafting narratives that pulse with the real-world intensity of emergency medicine and the calculated precision of surgical procedures. His work spans multiple genres, from heart-pounding thrillers to thoughtful non-fiction, all informed by his hands-on experience in high-stakes medical situations.
When not saving lives or crafting novels, Carson pursues an active lifestyle that mirrors the adventures in his books, finding inspiration in mountain landscapes and unwinding with fine wines. His writing, like his medical practice, reflects a deep understanding of human nature under pressure and the complex moral choices faced by those who hold lives in their hands.
