Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. BLOCKADE RUNNER TALE OF ADVENTURE ABOARD THE ROBERT E. LEE HEAGNEY 1939 1ST. I am pleased to be able to offer a very scarce copy (no copies found online) of a book written for boys about the days of the Civil War. The book is titled: Blockade Runner a Tale of Adventure Aboard the Robert E. Lee, by H.J. Heagney. It is the story about a ship running guns from England during the Civil War written from the perspective of two young Confederate Virginians. This small hard cover book (5 ½ x 8 inches, 188 pages) was published by Longmans, Green and Company of New York and Toronto, dated 1939 and the First Edition (so stated). It was illustrated at the chapter headings with woodcuts by John Gincano, including the decoration of the endpapers showing cotton being off-loaded from the ship while rifles are being inspected for the return shipment. The book is bound in yellow cloth with black titles on the spine. Condition: This book is in good condition. The hard covers are lightly soiled and slightly bumped with some wear through the finish at the corners and spine tips. Inside, there is a penciled name of a former owner on the half-title but this is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages and chapter heading illustrations are generally clean although there is a finger smudge on the title page, not too bad. The front hinge is torn but the rear intact and the binding still feels tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Seller Inventory # 2692
