With heartbreaking honesty, this profoundly raw and deeply emotional memoir documents Darter’s struggle to learn to breathe in a world without his partner. More than a quiet and powerful tribute to enduring love, this book serves as a highly relatable, comforting companion for anyone navigating the lonely road of loss. Some readers suggest that it could be a valuable resource to those who facilitate spouse bereavement groups or provide bereavement counseling. It has also been described by many readers as an incredible love story.
What Readers Are Saying:
An absolutely beautiful and heartfelt tribute to his wife Diane... Steve shares many examples of love, loss, and the rollercoaster of emotions that plague us for days, months, and unfortunately for years. [He] reminds us in a meaningful way in his grief journey that 'with acceptance comes peace.'" — Katharina Paparone, Widow and Twelve Years Experience Facilitating a Bereavement Group
"His poems spark feelings, memories, and reflections. This book is very real and would be a perfect resource for a spouse bereavement group. By sharing his grief, [He] shows that love is far greater than loss.” " — Kathleen Ashwell, Widow
"Steve has an extraordinary ability to give voice to these complex and painful emotions through beautiful and thoughtful poetry. This book is a comforting companion for anyone navigating the lonely road of loss." — Alice Levas, Widow
"Darter reflects on his wife, Diane, their marriage, the depth of his love, and the pain of loss, and his gradual journey through grief to peace. The poems are honest, intimate, and unguarded, forming a quiet and powerful tribute to enduring love... They touched me, and I believe they will touch you, too." — Blaine Greenfield, Author and Broadcaster
"Brought up many emotions that I had while going through my own grief... Moments of tears as well as the many happy memories... very endearing… a true 'Love Story'." — Leo West, Widower
"Steve’s verses offer an opportunity for those who have recently lost a loved one and in the throes of grief but also those at the threshold of marriage to ponder deeply the joy and strength of an everlasting love." — Vicki Orzechowski, Widow
"He expresses his feelings in poems that meant so much to me... shows the grief process Steve is going through. It is a good book for anyone who has lost a loved one." — Colleen Rainone, Widow and Eleven Years Experience Facilitating a Bereavement Group
Whether you are in the immediate, paralyzing throes of sorrow or seeking a meaningful way to reflect on the joy of lasting love, this deeply personal collection will touch your heart, spark your own memories, and guide you toward healing.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
