About the Author: Delma Barber Aven was born at the beginning of the Depression years. She almost died during a tornado at 13 years of age. Del’s writing is enhanced by her experiences as a schoolteacher, Sunday school teacher, and media center recording technician. Del was and is active in church work and has been a loving caregiver for many family members. She is the wife of Dr. Russell Aven, professor emeritus of Ole Miss; the mother of two children (one deceased); and she has two grandchildren. Del is the author of two children’s books and has won photography and Mississippi Arts Festival Library awards.
