The Orton-Gillingham approach has been proven by many studies to be the best way to help those with dyslexia learn to read. An Orton-Gillingham based reading program is more than phonics worksheets and activities. A true OG reading program must teach all phonics sounds, spelling rules and exceptions in a cumulative, repetitive manner. It must be multi-sensory and be capable of being adjusted as needed. This approach to teach reading is also in alignment with the components outlined in the science of reading, a study to define evidence-based strategies for effective literacy instruction. The Blast Off to Reading Program, designed for ages 7 to 13, is rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach. It consists of a meticulously structured lesson-based workbook and an optional web-app accessible on any browser. The companion app, available separately, enriches the learning experience with teaching tools and engaging phonics games, adding a multi-sensory dimension that children find enjoyable.
