Dive into the raw, heart-wrenching, and ultimately uplifting true story of Crysta Byrd in The Bitter and The Bold, a gripping memoir that shatters silence and reclaims truth. At sixteen, Crysta's life was forever altered by a brutal assault in a small Louisiana town, leading to an unthinkable pregnancy and a daughter, Jada, who became her beacon of hope. But the nightmare didn't end there. Forced to face her rapist in court, endure a decade-long custody battle, and navigate a corrupt system that demanded she pay her abuser, Crysta's journey is a testament to a mother's unbreakable love and a survivor's relentless courage.
This isn't just a story-it's a battle cry. From the haunting night in 2005 that stole her innocence to the media storm in 2022 that shook the nation, Crysta lays bare every scar, every lie she told to survive, and every moment of defiance that forged her into a warrior. With vivid, emotional prose, she recounts raising Jada alone, confronting systemic betrayal, and fighting to protect her daughter from the same predator who destroyed her youth. Through PTSD, paranoia, and unimaginable loss, Crysta's story is a lifeline for survivors, a call to reform broken systems, and a celebration of resilience that will leave you inspired, outraged, and forever changed.
Perfect for readers of The Glass Castle, Educated, and Know My Name, this memoir blends raw vulnerability with fierce advocacy, offering hope to those navigating trauma, injustice, or the complexities of motherhood. The Bitter and The Bold includes resources for survivors, making it a powerful tool for healing and empowerment. Join Crysta on her bold path forward-a journey of love, tragedy, and triumph that proves no darkness can extinguish a survivor's light.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone.
