Print on Demand. This book tells the tale of the titular Donald Macleod as he battles with the selectmen of Rouge River. A man of great ambition, Macleod had built a mill and warehouse, attracting many hopeful souls to the once-small town. With his wealth and newfound power, Macleod’s once-hearty relationship with the townsfolk sours when a church is erected, dedicated to Saint David, a figure Macleod holds in great reverence. To Macleod, this act is one of blatant heresy and intolerance. He demands that Father Stanislaus Burke remove the church, threatening to withhold financial contributions from the public school if he does not. Caught between his faith and his duty to his community, Burke refuses, and Macleod responds by building a rival town: St. Bride. A fierce rivalry ignites between the two towns, fueled by religious differences. This book explores the themes of intolerance, the importance of community, and the destructive power of religious extremism, offering a timeless tale of the conicts that arise when faith and power collide. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

To Macleod the question was an accusation and the answer must be an arraignment. He was the creator of Rouge River and he alone was responsible for its doings and mis doings. He had suffered heresy and schism to obtain a foothold in his absolute domain. Nothing could be clearer than his duty in the matter; he must uproot the evil while the opportunity was his.
