240 p. 18 cm. Frontisportrait and numerous other b&w illustrations and decorations. Blue cloth hardcover with gold print. Includes the author's autobiography, portraying life in early Middlesex County. See page 18 for reference to Anthony Steel, early pioneer buried in Melrose Cemetery. The author's sister married Daniel Shoff (pages 23-24) of Flanagan's Corners (Clandeboye) and was involved in the case of the Queen vs. James Donnelly in the 1850s. The poet's work includes obsequies to his deceased daughter, a dialogue between an American refugee of the Civil War and a Canadian, a lament by the last Indian of his tribe, an epitaph to Riel, Niagara Falls, and the sugar bush.
