An attractive mid-Victorian edition of Bird-Architecture by James Rennie, examining the remarkable nesting habits and structural ingenuity of birds across species. Published under the superintendence of the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge, this work combines accessible natural history with scientific observation. Illustrated throughout with wood-engraved plates and in-text illustrations, depicting bird nests and construction methods, including notable examples such as the tailor-bird and red-winged starling. Bound in the original green cloth boards, with decorative blind-stamping to covers and gilt lettering to the spine. Part of Charles Knight’s respected educational publishing series. Condition: Good condition for age. Boards show general wear, rubbing, and light marking, with some fading to the cloth. Spine remains intact with readable gilt title. Binding is firm. Internally, pages are clean with age-related toning and occasional light spotting. All illustrations appear present. No loose or missing pages noted. Notes: A desirable and increasingly collectible Victorian natural history title, appealing to collectors of ornithology, animal behaviour, early science writing, and 19th-century illustrated books.…
