From towering redwoods to the hidden world beneath the forest floor, this educational guide walks young readers through the essential science of trees and forests — explained clearly, built chapter by chapter, and designed to make biology feel like an adventure.
Inside, young readers will discover:
- What makes a tree a tree — its parts, structure, and how it grows from a seedling
- How trees produce food, transport water, and breathe through photosynthesis and transpiration
- The major forest types around the world, from tropical rainforests to temperate woodlands
- Which animals depend on forests and how each species fits into the ecosystem
- The forest floor and soil — the hidden layer that makes all life above it possible
- How trees and forests influence weather, store carbon, and shape Earth's climate
- Famous and record-breaking trees from across the globe
- How forest ecology works — food webs, decomposition, and the cycle of life
- The long history of humans and forests, from ancient civilizations to modern use
- Why forests are threatened and what kids can do to help protect them
This guide is ideal for:
- Children ages 6–10 in early elementary grades
- Parents looking for engaging, curriculum-aligned science reading
- Homeschool families covering life science, nature study, or botany units
- Teachers seeking classroom supplemental reading on plant science and ecosystems
- Young nature lovers who ask questions about the outdoor world around them
Each chapter builds on the last, giving children a complete picture of tree biology and forest science without overwhelming them. The content is written to be read aloud together or explored independently by confident early readers.
