Print on Demand. This book offers an absorbing account of the political and social landscape of the Kingdom of Naples during the tumultuous reigns of the Spanish Habsburg monarchs, Charles V and his successors, from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. It delves into the intricate relationship between the Spanish Crown and the Neapolitan aristocracy, examining how the centralizing efforts of the Habsburgs clashed with the local autonomy and privileges enjoyed by the nobility. The author draws on a rich tapestry of archival sources to illuminate the complex dynamics of power, patronage, and resistance that shaped the history of this period. Ultimately, this work provides a nuanced understanding of the ways in which the Spanish Habsburgs sought to assert their authority over the Kingdom of Naples, and the challenges they faced in reconciling their ambitions with the aspirations of the Neapolitan elite. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
