In 1987 it seemed appropriate to consider an extended publication that would mark the completion of the first decade of these meetings. This volume is the result. A number of the distinguished researchers who participated in the first ten workshops have contributed chapters summarizing their current work in the area of chemical carcinogenesis. These contributions cover a wide range of topics, are particularly up-to-date, and reflect a consistently high level of scientific investigation which will both inform and stimulate all those currently active in - or entering some area of - cancer research.
