The symbols used by the earliest Christian community as part of the burial art in the Catacombs of Rome. There are 96 full-page plates of drawings that include symbols, preceded by a glossary with drawings and explanations of the symbols. In orig. cloth, with minor staining on covers, staining on front pastedown from removal of two labels, bookseller plate and owner name on front pastedown, folding crease on ffep, paper on rear pastedown is abraded where tape was removed from around a label. Internally, contents are entirely clean and this copy is in overall very good condition. Seller Inventory # C5160
