About the Author: J. R. R. Tolkien (1892-1971) écrit sa première histoire à sept ans (une histoire de dragons !). Il est nommé professeur d'anglo-saxon à Oxford en 1920 et commence à écrire Bilbo le hobbit vers 1930, inspiré par les histoires qu'il lit à ses enfants. Ce roman sera publié pour la première fois en 1937. Très vite, le public réclame une suite. C'est alors qu'il commence à écrire Le Seigneur des anneaux, qu'il mettra quinze ans à terminer.
