How to Start, Run & Grow a Successful Trucking Company
The Roadmap from One Rig to a Multi-Million Dollar Fleet—Told by Someone Who’s Been There
When I lost my corporate job in 2008, I was staring down the hardest chapter of my life. With a pregnant wife, mounting bills, and no fallback plan, I leaped—I went to trucking school and got my CDL.
“From laid off to fleet boss—your journey starts here.”
One week after graduation, I landed my first driving job. That first paycheck nearly matched what I made behind a corporate desk. That’s when I knew: the trucking industry was my new path to freedom. And I never looked back.
Fast-forward a few years, and I wasn’t just a truck driver anymore. I was an owner-operator. Then a fleet owner. And eventually, I built and sold a multi-truck, high-profit business that rivaled my old CEO’s salary. Now, I’m handing you the keys to create your own.
“No experience? No problem. Just follow the roadmap.”
Why This Book? Why Now?
Because the opportunity in trucking is real and wide open.
You don’t need a million dollars or a Harvard MBA. You need grit, a plan, and the proper roadmap. That’s what this book gives you: a practical, proven, step-by-step guide based entirely on real-world experience.
I don’t just explain how trucking works—I show you exactly what I did. What worked. What didn’t? And how to get from zero to profitable, no matter your starting point.
Inside This Book, You'll Discover:
Whether you want to drive, dispatch, or scale into full fleet ownership, this book breaks it all down into manageable, actionable steps.
Phase 1: Getting on the Road
• How to get your CDL (and why it's a game-changer)
• The steps to acquire DOT & Carrier Authority Numbers
• Registering for UCR and filing your BOC-3 form
• Everything you need to know about SCAC, IRP tags & IFTA decals
Phase 2: Building Your Trucking Business
• Choosing the proper legal structure (LLC, Corp, etc.)
• Writing a trucking-specific business plan that banks respect
• How to get your EIN from the IRS
• Where and how to find trucks, trailers, and the best financing options
• Grants, loans, and creative ways to fund your startup
Phase 3: Scaling with Smart Strategy
• How to find consistent loads using load boards
• Which types of freight pay the most and suit your startup
• How to maintain your trucks for maximum uptime
• Why fuel cards can save you thousands per year
• How to hire reliable drivers who stick around
• Smart marketing to grow beyond one truck
From Paycheck to Payoff: My Story
By 2016, I had 12 trucks on the road and hit a net earnings of $350,000—a figure that meant more to me than just money. It matched the CEO's salary of the company that once laid me off.
A few years later, a major trucking company made an offer I couldn’t refuse. I sold my business at a premium, but the knowledge stayed with me. While my non-compete keeps me off the road for now, it didn’t stop me from writing this book and helping others climb their way to the top.
“The only direction you need now is forward.”
