Beyond These Walls: The True Story of a Lost Child's Journey to a Whole Life is a compelling narrative about a client living with Dissociative Identity Disorder, (DID), and her painful journey to a whole life. It also depicts her therapist's struggles to help her client heal from her tormented past.

Beyond These Walls is a riveting exposé for all persons who need hope in times of despair and loss. It delves into human relations, family dynamics and what can happen to an individual when her childhood is no longer safe and nurturing.

The book is presented from two points-of-view. A therapist, with forty years of experience presents her humanistic, unconventional methods in order to gain a client's trust; and the client, whose own unfiltered words provide the reader with the stark reality of her struggle. One person who read an early draft said, "I learned more about myself, my fears and my behavior from Hanna and felt closer to Rachel as a therapist than from my own therapy."

DID, formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder, was first written about in the best-selling novel, The Three Faces of Eve by Corbett Thigpen (1957) and Sybil by Flora Rheta Schneider (1973). These books helped expand the consciousness of the readers into the internal experiences of individuals whose minds veered from the paths of "normal development" and created worlds of their own.

The uniqueness of Beyond These Walls is in the understanding and presentation of the therapist-client relationship. The straightforward style connects with the public wanting to understand the therapeuIic process which for decades have been considered private and mysterious.Beyond these Walls considers aspects of DID and healing that few books examine..The complexity of gender issues in the multiple personality offers the reader a fascinating account of how male and female can live together in one body. The reader will also note the great influence of spirituality and its relationship to psychotherapy and spirituality in Hanna's healing. Above all, this is a book about hope: a state of mind that all of mankind must embrace. As Dr. Gerald Jampolsky, author of Love is Letting Go of Fear stated, "This book is truly inspirational"
