Synopsis:

From the Author: A word about what this book is and is not.
Wow, it’s up! And look, it broke 100,000 on the chart! Cool. Hi. My name is David Morrison and I am author of Beyond Gay, a quiet, reflective, semi-autobiographical book about one of the most divisive social issues confronting Americans. I guess since I am a believer in full disclosure, I wanted to let folks know what this book is not, lest they buy it and be disappointed with their purchase.

A while back, in the early 1990’s, as I had begun to realize that I needed a deeper understanding same-sex attraction’s role in my life, I had also come to feel deeply dissatisfied with most public discussion of "homosexuality: the issue." I came to recognize both sides in the debate, "conservative Christian" and "gay and lesbian activist," shared a need to treat same-sex attraction primarily as an issue for debate and demagoguery, rather than as a phenomenon individuals and families might struggle to understand in the context of their own values. In short, both sides seemed to forget that people lived behind the issue icons, press conferences, votes and direct mail letters; people who were hurting, who needed answers, who had needs that were not being met.

So, then, I hope this book will not add any fuel to that fire. This book does not shout. It does not call names or stridently denounce. It does not seek to humiliate or go for the short-term fix. What this book does do is tell a story, my story, of one man’s experience of same-sex attraction, of what I learned from it and, I hope, what it enabled me to write about credibly.

Because while on one level the book is about homosexuality and same-sex attraction, on other levels its about deeper, more universal, themes; growth, maturity, change, friendship, discipline, love, intimacy freedom and hope. It’s really about the discovery of faith and the realization that, far from being something static, dried-up and fit for a cabinet in the corner of a life, faith properly understood is alive and demanding, challenging and improving, life changing and hope restoring.

Thank you for your interest in the book. I can be reached at beyondgay@aol.com.
