A novel full of emotion that changes, transforms, and confronts.
Soledad is forty years old, with a broken heart. A long history of relationships that never worked leads her to a bench in Madrid's Retiro Park, carrying the weight of everything that couldn't be.
Then Jonson arrives. A man with a croissant broken in two, a smile that asks for no permission, and a truth no one had ever told her before.
What begins as a chance encounter becomes the most difficult and most necessary process Soledad has ever gone through: learning to look at herself head-on, understanding where her mistakes come from, and building, from within, a version of herself that depends on no one else in order to be well.
Better Alone Than in Bad Company is not a conventional love story. It's a story about what happens before love. About emotional dependency, self-love, and the difference between needing someone and choosing them.
Through real characters, conversations that hurt, and moments that liberate, Johnny R. Alcántara builds a novel that speaks directly to anyone who has ever felt alone in the middle of a relationship, to anyone who repeats the same patterns without understanding why, and to anyone who knows they deserve more but doesn't know how to get there.
Because there's a world of difference between needing someone and choosing them.
