The idea of this book “The Best Of Jewish Humor” and the Jewish Humor group I created on Facebook back on August 6th, 2014 was born out of the experience I shared with my family when I was just a young boy. Every Sunday morning my parents would religiously listen to the Jewish program on Montreal radio AM dial 1410 station CFMB hosted by Nachum Wilchesky. I recall how my parents would so much enjoy this weekly radio show which featured Jewish comedy and Jewish songs. The show at least temporarily made them forget any of the hardships or troubles they were experiencing at the time. It truly was like medicine. As the saying goes “Jewish Humor is the best medicine”.
"With so many negative events taking place around the planet, sometimes it is refreshing to stand back for a moment and enjoy a good laugh!
Comedy never changes, it's either funny or it's not. Comedy is more than interesting and amusing, it's one of the few things that can change your mood, it can change how you feel and give you a new reality. In the moment of a laugh you forget every problem you ever had! "Laughter is an instant vacation!"
The Bible says : A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.." In our present troubled world, Jewish humor is just what the Jewish doctor ordered! We can't just sit there in misery & negativity. Even in the concentration camps, Jews were humorous. Research has revealed that the Jews in concentration camps created plays, told jokes because the only thing they could do was laugh at their own predicament, sad as it was, because there was no other escape & the only other alternative was to go crazy altogether! Feeling different, feeling alienated, feeling persecuted, feeling that the only way you can deal with the world is to laugh because if you don't laugh you're going to cry and never stop crying -- that's probably what's responsible for the Jews having developed such a great sense of humor. The people who had the greatest reason to weep learned more than anyone else how to laugh. Let this book be like sunshine, be a joy and a blessing in your life! "
After creating and being the chief administrator of a Jewish Humor group on Facebook, now in my tenth year, I have researched the 100 most popular jokes ever posted inside my Jewish Humor group and I have also filtered and included some of the funnier comments posted below these 100 most popular jokes. The comments are sometimes funnier than the joke itself. Guaranteed to give you many good laughs!
Towards the end of the book you will find “Let’s have fun and Learn Yiddish” with some of the more popular Yiddish words and Yiddish expressions.
