Item description from seller

pp. 14-35. From the library of Prof. Wolfgang Haase, long-time editor of ANRW and the International Journal of the Classical Tradition (IJCT). - Some stains on cover, otherwise good and very clean. - From the text: Until comparatively few years ago, there would not have been too much point in a discussion of my topic. We all learnt the basic facts at university, and they were clear enough. But ten years ago the subject suddenly became undeservedly controversial, and when it seemed that that particular fire was being more or less smothered, in 1987 a new one was lit in a far more knowledgeable quarter, and one that was meant to consume not merely Beowulf, but virtually the whole of Old English poetry, with the meagre exception of Caedmons Hymn, Bedes Death Song, the Leiden Riddle, and The Dream of the Rood, some forty lines in all. (The verses on the Franks Casket, and the Proverb of Winfrid were somehow overlooked.) I shall return to this. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 550.
