From the Book Cover:
A Gothic Tale of Suspense and Redemption
Undead sorcerers stalk the fogbound streets. A crypto-naturalist madman surfaces from his watery grave. The sins of the past reignite a magical war only the dead can win.
Arriving at the scene of a sorcerous murder, Professor of Enchantment Eusebius Quille must enlist the help of the only woman he has ever loved. And the last person in the world he wants involved.
Detective Inspector Nadine Oortsgarten already has her suspect. A disreputable enchanter with a shadowy past—Professor of Enchantment Eusebius Quille.
From the Publisher:
The Fogbound Realm is a grimbright secondary-world fantasy where human magic is real, costly, and weak.
Arduvulin City teems with life and death. Humans share its warrens and wharves with the mythical, the demonic, and the dead. Beneath the gaslight cobbles the Folk live on in grumbling subterranean exile. A caustic fog blankets the city, powering cast-iron engines and clockwork machines. Such inventions strengthen human magic a hundred-fold, balancing the scales against those born to magic.
This shrouded city, this beating heart of the Fogbound Realm, stands apart from its neighbors in the hub of worlds, competing polities where ancient portals of dragon bone act as gateways to elsewhere. Within the ever-shifting borders of the Realm, Its Royal Highness has extended Its benevolence to the dispossessed; luckless souls running toward or away from their fates. Beyond this gaslit city and its questing fingers of fog, there are few humans. Beyond the Realm they are property. Beyond the Realm they are prey.
Beneath the Hidden Gyre tells the story of the adoptive parents of Maddy Dune, the series' central protagonist. This story can be enjoyed as a standalone novel that also dramatizes events and relationships that later books build upon. The Fogbound Realm series begins here because Maddy's story begins here. Before the spark. Before ignition.
From the Author:
If you like your romance more chivalric than spiced, your magic more alchemy than steam, and your supernatural neighbors more folkloric than shifty, then you've come to the right neighborhood.
