“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
Those words are familiar. Maybe too familiar.
In In the Beginning, Dr. David Powers slows down and looks again.
This book explores Genesis 1:1 through dozens of languages, from Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Aramaic to Chinese, Japanese, Cherokee, Inuktitut, Navajo, Quechua, and many more. Along the way, it examines the first words, the first letters, the structure of different writing systems, the way translation changes what we see, and the ways cultures across the world have carried the same ancient declaration.
This is not a book about secret codes or forcing hidden meanings into Scripture. It is about paying attention.
About noticing what most people rush past.
About looking at the Bible as something worth exploring rather than something to leave untouched on a shelf.
You’ll see how one verse can move through alphabets, syllabaries, symbols, scripts, and languages while still pointing back to the same truth.
God was there in the beginning.
God created.
And everything else came after.
Part of the Biblical Exploration Series, alongside If Then and Hebrew Gold, this book continues the same mission of digging deeper into Scripture through language, history, symbolism, and careful observation.
If you have ever wanted to move beyond simply reading the Bible and start exploring it, this book is for you.
