From the Beginning
In the beginning, God created humanity -- male and female -- in his image and commissioned them as co-rulers over the earth (Genesis 1:27-28). That oneness was shattered in the Fall. Under the curse, might became right, the strong subjugating the weak while the female half of God's image-bearers became subject to the crushing weight of a patriarchal world system. But in Christ, that oneness was restored (Galatians 3:28). Modeled by Jesus himself, the dignity and respect women received in the early church was a revolutionary movement unparalleled by any other religion, culture, and time in history.
So how did the Bride of Christ acquire such a masculine voice? Why does the organized church continue to hinder the female half of God's image from exercising their God-given gifts and callings? After nearly five decades of pastoral ministry within conservative Christianity, co-authors Eric and Carol Smith reached the conclusion that traditional male patriarchy does not line up with God's original design. Interwoven with their personal journey,
From the Beginning offers a meticulous biblical apologetic as well as fresh vision for today's church on what it really means to be God's image-bearers -- both male and female -- and the restoration of God's redemptive plan for true manhood and womanhood as it was "from the beginning."
