About the Author: Born in Tanzania and raised in the coastal city of Dar es Salaam, Farida Somjee has drawn on the memories of her childhood to capture the rhythms of African life, leaving a deep and lasting impression of one boy’s struggle for freedom. FARIDA SOMJEE lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, with her husband and son. The Beggar’s Dance is her first novel.
