Red boards with wear to surface, edges and corners. Original red leather spines lettered in gilt with white library numbers at base. Internally front end papers have panoply of library marks; both title pages stamped. Vol 1 has tears and a few stains, mostly marginal, to first 100 pages, infrequent thereafter until page 381-495 many of which are torn and some repaired with old sellotape; page 585/586 torn with 30% loss; a few less serious tears thereafter.
