Still Becoming is seventeen short stories written for exactly that gap — the space between what a hard season really is (temporary) and how permanent it feels while your teenager is living inside it. Built to be handed over one story at a time, each piece stands entirely on its own: a boy who counts ceiling tiles so nobody notices him first, a girl labeled by a rumor nobody bothered to check, a veteran at the end of a country lane the whole town rode past for fifty years without once asking why.
These stories don't lecture, and they don't resolve everything neatly — some of them refuse to. What they do, consistently, is model something worth handing to a teenager without ever saying it aloud: that the people we judge fastest are usually carrying something we can't see from where we're standing, and that patience and real listening do more lasting work than winning an argument ever will.
A short introduction at the front is written directly to you — the parent, teacher, or counselor deciding whether and how to use this book. It tells you plainly which stories carry the most weight (a few touch on childhood sexual abuse, grief, identity, and forgiveness — handled without graphic detail, but without softening the truth either), and it gives you permission to use one story at a time rather than handing over the whole book at once.
Written from a place of Christian convictions, and extended with the same compassion to every reader regardless of their own views and perspectives — this is a book for the adult who already knows a hard season doesn't last forever, and who's looking for seventeen ways to say so that don't sound like a lecture.
