Beautiful Pearls of Catholic Truth containing the Teachings of the Holy Catholic Church and the Sacred Books of the Bible as interpreted by the one true church founded by our divine Savior including the history of the books of the Bible, life of the Blessed Virgin, gospel story of the Passion of our Lord, grounds of Catholic doctrine, life and writings of St Pete, faith and hope, faith and reason, etc together with biographies of illustrious Saints, the Station or Holy Way of the Cross, discourses upon the sacraments, the Holy Angels, teachings of the 12 Apostles, the Holy Rosary, the Confession, invocation of the Saints, etc, etc from the writings of Rt. Rev. Bernard O'Reilly, L.L.D., His Eminence Cardinal Henry Edward Manning, Rt. Rev.Thomas O'Gorman, D.D., Rev. Arnold Damen, S.J. and other eminent Catholic writers of Europe and America to which is added a sketch of the Apostle of Temperance, Father Matthew and total abstinence from a Catholic point of view - profusely embellished with superb illustrations in colors, phototype and wood engravings - John Duffy, NY - 1897 - from the title page: Nihil Obstat T.L. Kinkhead Censor Deputatus Imprimatur Michael Augustine Archbishop of New York October 5, 1897 - October 6, 1897 these priests were known for writing and teaching Baltimore Catechism - this book was not available for purchase at time of publication and was exclusively for subscribers (Catholic Church News?) - the art is excellent and the full color pages by Geo S. Harris are even more amazing - each full color illustration uses approximately 7" x 9" of a 9ΒΌ" x 12" page, meaning that these are clean and ready to hang after cleaning up chipping of pages and stains in the margins - full page color illustrations for Station 5 & 6 and their descriptions are missing from the 12 stations - the title page of the section Comprehensive History of the Books of the Holy Catholic Bible and Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Christ by Rt. Rev. Bernard O'Reilly, L.L.D. (death at sea 1856) written expressly for this edition is copyright 1884 - on that page is the news clipping of the obituary of Hanorah Minton - Bonds of Holy Matrimony page is blank - Death page lists Lawrence Minton September 1883 (Hanorah's husband) - her death is written again on a memorial page - no other writing - condition is pretty bad as it is not really connected to a spine any longer - a piece of green electrical tape across the outer spine - a host of other dog eared corners and edges that are bent - the has obviously been well loved and then not stored properly. This is not wet or moldy or in any way smelly.β¦
