From the Author
In the gothic tradition of the series, Gabriel Knight investigates a series of brutal killings near Munich. The killings are believed to be the work of two wolves escaped from the local zoo. But the villagers of Knight's ancestrial home, Rittersberg, believe it to be something far worse -- werewolves. Gabriel investigates the zoo in Munich and talks with the police. His sleuthing leads him to an exclusive hunt club in Munich where the elitist clientele engage in a primitive hunting ritual -- a ritual designed to bring out 'the beast'. Meanwhile, his assistent, Grace Nakimura, is researching historical werewolf cases in Rittersberg. Through letters left by Gabriel's ancestors, she finds herself draw to the story of Ludwig II, the last great Bavarian monarch. An enigmatic figure, Ludwig's life was marked by the bizarre and ended mysteriously. A lost Wagner opera, the last days of Ludwig II, and the hedonistic cult of the hunt club all merge in the stories climax. Although the supernatural pervades this book, the story has more of a dark, gothic/romantic mystery feel than a true horror read. Much research went into the Ludwig/Wagner story, so you may enjoy it if you have any interest in these two figures.
