Add to basket"Very good" Trade paperback with partial spine crease, some rub to edges, and two small brown smudges to title page. Number line 20 19 18 17 16 15 14 13 12, only -- the twelfth printing. Having acquired his Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley (!) and subsequently settled in Canada, the author expresses the opinion that for residents of rural areas within the grizzly's range the "opportunity . . . to carry firearms for personal protection . . . does not extend to sidearms without special permit" (which would make perfectly good sense, if bears had to go through a restrictive government "permitting" process imposed by pale, balding. worm-like paper-pushers in Ottawa before being allowed to deploy claws or jaws capable of crushing a human skull), adding that "For protection against a suddenly encountered and charging grizzly, many people will be safer without any firearms," since those carrying a firearm tend to be less alert. A useful book, then, aside from the author being a shrieking, Politically Correct, bed-wetting nut job. We have hiked grizzly territory in Montana -- actually held up on our way back to town one night by a traffic jam caused when a motorcyclist struck a bear on the roadway (apparently a double fatality) -- and the advice of the local Native Americans to us was to make sure to always carry firearms in calibers beginning with the number "4," since anything smaller just aggravates them. 287 pp. including index. Reduced from $12.
