From the back cover: 'The Battle of Bosworth Field, fought on the 22nd of August 1485, was the decisive battle that ended the Wars of the Roses in England. Richard III and the House of York were defeated and the victorious Henry Tudor became king, beginning a new ruling dynasty. Although this famous battle continues to capture the imagination as a defining event in the country's history, it is the least well-documented of the medieval battles and its true circumstances and details continue to be a matter for debate. This book may be described as one of the "classic" accounts of the battle. It was written by William Hutton, a Birmingham antiquarian and bookseller, and was first published in 1788. The book includes a useful discourse on the life of Richard III up to the time of the battle, an account of the battle itself and the aftermath. The present reprint is taken from the second edition of the book, published by John Nichols in 1813, which contained some useful additional notes and observations of his own. A new introduction to William Hutton and the first edition,by Peter Hammond of the Richard III Society, enhances this timely reappearance of an important account of the famous battle."
