Basic Statistics for Business and Economics

This is a two-colour edition of "Statistical Techniques in Business and Economics". The text utilizes all the same successful presentation and pedagogical style as the original text, however this shorter version only contains the core topical coverage with fewer optional topics and less detail.

Packaged w/CD-ROM containing practice quizzes, data files, and PowerPoint slides. This text is one of the first to introduce an expansive technology supplements package.
Excel and Minitab are integrated throughout the text. Excel and Minitab are used as examples in the chapter and the explanations of the computer commands are moved to the end of the chapter letting students focus on statistical techniques. Excel examples are a current hot topic in this market. It is widely use throughout both a student's academic and occupational careers.
Use of p-values is integrated in the hypothesis testing discussions throughout the text. P-values are a hot emerging topic because they give the user more information about the hypothesis and provide more depth to the problem.
Statistics in Action boxes (2 per chapter) provide additional interesting readings.
Web exercises related to companies, government organizations, and university data sets enhance students' use of data. Instructors and students will find these web exercises and data sets useful because they allow the student to experiment with real world examples, but also because they afford the students more exposure to the vast resources available on the web.
Pronunciation Key listing the math symbol, its meaning, and how to pronounce it follows at the end of chapter, helping students gain confidence in the language of statistics and retain the meaning of the symbol. (It also helps a student understand the professor's lectures when new symbols, etc. are introduced).
Material on percentiles and quartiles reflects the use of the computer and is based on ungrouped rather than grouped data allowing students to focus on interpretation of the data.
Regression and correlation analysis includes more realistic examples and more observations to emphasize decision-making aspects. This makes the problem more realistic to the student.
A new section describing the difference between dependent and independent samples with a discussion of why the value of the test statistic changed when dependent and independent samples are used on the same data.
Clear explanations supported by detailed step-by-step examples.
Examples, Self-review boxes, and exercises after each major concept allow students to develop the skills and confidence to 'do' statistics.
Illustrations and photos support text concepts and diminish the fear of statistics.
Highlighted definitions and boxed, numbered formulas provide quick reference that will save your students time.
End-of-chapter outline and exercises provide reinforcement of chapter goals.
Worked solutions to all odd-numbered text exercises in the back of the book give students immediate feedback not only on just the correct answer, but on how they should arrive at the correct one.
Computer data exercises, using three large end-of-text data sets follow each chapter. These allow real world applications and analysis of data using techniques discussed in each chapter.
Formula card inserted into text give students another tool to help in their studies.
