Paperback. Thinking about becoming an accountant but not sure what the work actually looks like day to day? This is the book to read before you commit to a degree.Written by a CMA with fifty years of real-world experience in accounting and finance, this concise guide strips away the jargon and walks you through the fundamentals the way they were meant to be learned -- by hand, from first principles, before spreadsheets and software do the work for you.Using a simple fictional manufacturing company as your guide, you'll follow a full year of transactions from initial investment to closing the books. You'll learn the accounting equation, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and how financial statements actually come together -- the exact foundation every accountant needs, taught the way it builds real understanding instead of just passing a test.Beyond the mechanics, you'll get a candid, experience-based comparison of accounting versus finance as careers: the certifications that matter, the salary and growth outlook, and the paths each profession can lead to, from controller to CFO. The book closes with hard-won personal advice on what actually makes someone successful in this field -- advice you won't find in a textbook. If accounting has crossed your mind as a career, or you just want to finally understand how a company's books really work, this is the clearest, most honest place to start.
