Item description from seller

Collection of 19 fairy & folk tales first written down in the early 1930s by a pioneer teacher in the Kasai district of what would later become the Democratic Republic of Congo. They feature the Baluba & Lulua tribes, & have been carefully reviewed & edited by a native Congolese. In 95 pages with a helpful pronunciation guide in rear, illustrated throughout with the powerful woodcuts of artist Rocco Negri. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1970, this hardcover octavo (7.25" x 8.75") has brightly decorated green cloth over boards, with an illustration matched on the accompanying DJ. Though it is an Ex-Lib copy, with usual stamps & markings & card pocket, these only appear in the front matter. The book is amazingly clean & bright, with colorful, unmarked pages, strong library binding. Having been protected under clear mylar, the colorful DJ (with original price intact at bottom front flap, clipped at top) is in Near Fine condition, with slight spine fading, paper call number to lower spine. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received Weekdays by 2 pm Pacific time; later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.…
